archaeor
My 10 year-old daughter and I get together every weekend for various adventures. Yesterday, I went out and found a few fossils..... http://www.thefossil...lifornia-coast/ Today, I gave her a few of my finds and she seemed very interested to go and find some of her own, so, off we went! Since Sunol is very close to us, we headed off for a few hours of fossil hunting.... http://www.thefossil...area-locations/ We had a Great time...... didn't find anything really good, but I promised her I would take her to a place to find better stuff next time.... Here she is, enjoying being out with daddy, I'm envisioning many more trips out for more fossil finding adventures!

snolly50
I really enjoy reading about member's various fossil adventures. This is the kind I like the most. Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, also are remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so. - Douglas Adams, Last Chance to See
Jocky
My 11 year old daughter would rather have major surgery than come with me fossilizing. If I could find a way of having a swimming pool in the desert hmmmmmm.........
DE&i
That's great your out and about fossiling in the fresh air with your daughter. I take my son with me around the UK as often as I can he's 6 years old he's often telling me he'd love to be a paleontologist when gets older. As long as he can be a fireman at the weekends ha ha . http://darrenjwithers.com Edited December 11, 2012 by D&E Regards.....D&E&i The only certainty with fossil hunting is the uncertainty. https://lnk.bio/Darren.Withers
erose
Nothing makes me happier than being out with my daughter. She learned what a brachiopod was when she was about 3-1/2 and still finds good stuff now at 17. Here she is at about 5 years old with her cousin skunking me on good echinoids and then at Wilson Clay Pit spotting great crinoids.

snakebite6769
My children have shown a great interest in fossil collecting, we just don't have any in the area we are in. I have tried to find places and may have stumbled onto something. Only time will tell. Hopefully we can get out to Penn Dixie this summer. Would make a great family trip I think. Vermont is lacking in the fossil department.

Bev
Wonderful to see all the photos with young people fossiling! May I encourage those of you who take out the younger set to keep photo diaries of your hunts for the kids? Just a simple album that shows where they went and what they found, perhaps have them write a bit in it and/or identify what they found. This can be so valuable as they go through school and have a chance to share in their biology classes and they can perhaps even use it for a science project! Wonderful memores nevertheless and so easy to do! Another thing to do for them is to create a small fossiling pack just for them. Their own notepad, hammer, book, hat, sunscreen, water bottle, whatever. Its a grab and go that will make them feel so special. A pack just like the person they are going out with! You may want pink for the girls. Bev The more I learn, I realize the less I know.
