sixgill pete Posted December 16, 2012 Share Posted December 16, 2012 (edited) Went to the Belgrade Quarry near Maysville NC yesterday. (upper Oligocene Belgrade formation, Miocene/Pliocene/Pleistocene upper layers) I was joined by forum member RickNC whom I have hunted with on several other occasions and for the first time masonboro37. It was great to meet Libby finally for a hunt. While the finds were tough for us all, myself and Rick both found a nice Mako. We all had a great time though and got plenty of exercise climbing and crawling around the hills. I also found a round piece of coral that is different from the pieces that I normally find a small lower great white (center bottom tooth next to the ray teeth) and what I think may be some type of scute. Definitely not the best fossiling day, but still a beautiful day to be outside and the opportunity to meet and make a new friend. The better stuff: My mako Is this a scute? zachj Posted December 16, 2012 Share Posted December 16, 2012 while that mako is pristine! ive been trying to wait for a heavy rain to hit NC to go out to the quarry but it looks like it didnt need it! one day i will find a tooth over 3 inches in good conditon haha. That quarry has been hit real hard in the last few months. Well, our mission to have many finds just did not occur. Next time! Your gastropods are splendid and is that a Snaggletooth Shark tooth below the Mako in your pic? I did come home with some pretty lil' teeth and a few gastro's. I thought that was a Snag tooth! I have not found a complete one as of yet.
