Adie_uk
Been a little spoilt this week and managed to get some fossil hunting in and as its my birthday in a couple of days I get to choose what I want to do so some more fossil hunting over next 2 days. Sat went for a little look at a site at the far end of the island in Yarmouth, we were planning on going soon and was in the area so had a quick hour on the beach looking about. Found some croc scutes quite quickly followed by turtle carapace then a fish vert and so the finds went on approx. 40 pieces of turtle carapace (some tiny but cant just leave them) 2 fish verts, 4 croc scutes and a part croc tooth and a few bits of bone. only one item im not sure of, fish related maybe? ray plate? all these items came from the bouldnor formation, 28-35 myo nice pocket of finds, now decided to put finds from each trip on a card and I.D. looks more interesting then grouping them in big bunches of bone, verts, teeth . mainly for my little girl to look at when she is bigger, the yellow card is our first. The next day I had a quick look down white cliff at the far other end of the island, again was just a quick recky to see what it like for another day, there about 2 hours in the end did not find much and so decided to bring some rocks home including a nicely coloured piece of wood with what looks like insect boar holes in it, some of the delicate shells (unsure what they are, the crumble as you try to get them out but I think they harden off when the dry out, also an unknown nodule with what I hope is a lobster claw from the London clay. And today we had a look at Yaverland looking for dino bones again found a pocket full of bone some of which will be Iguanodon, one small one I hoped was a part tooth but after looking at iguanodon teeth on line I don't think it is maybe just bone. No fantastic shocking finds but thought I would share anyway.

cowsharks
lol you guys in the states must be a little shocked at the lack of shark teeth! mine maybe small and 1 is damaged but I still love them they were my pride finds lol Yep, shocked. But you know, you collect what your environment has to offer. I'm sure if I lived in an ara dominated by trilobites I'd be a trilobite collector. Thank God I live in an area so diverse with vertebrate fossils, especially shark teeth! Since the shark teeth are so rare in your area I can see why you cherish the few that you have found. Thanks for posting all the pics. It's always neat to see what others find in their part of the world. Daryl.
DE&i
There great finds been trying to get to the Isle of Wight for a couple of years now . Hopefully this year . Adie_uk
Thanks guys, Let me know if you do D&E. managed another 2 days fossil hunting so 5 days in total! would love to go again today got the bug more that ever. it was my birthday yesterday, I know I am becoming more of a dork as I asked my wife for some fossil books I was after, never paid £25 for a book before! got 2 books and a local geology map that's overlaid with an OS map spending a total of £64! other gifts were fossil tools lol. on the other 2 days went back to Yarmouth got a pile of turtle and croc bits including a couple of teeth, fish verts and jaws, my wife found a great fossil poo with squeeze marks! and my best find that day was a fish jaw including teeth in matrix, was so excited anyone would have thought I found a dinosaur! was exposing it with my car keys hoping it maybe a complete fish, but no just a lower jaw but still love it. Next day was yaverland where we got a small pocket of rolled dino bone. had a great time Forgot to mention tried so hard to find a shark tooth spent about 2 hours crawling around so many false alarms, when looking so closely its amazing the tiny things you see must have spotted 25 modern crab claw tips that at first glance looked like teeth! DE&i
The geological society I belong to http://www.stamfordgeolsoc.org.uk/ are trying to arrange a visit to the Isle of Wight led by DR David Martillwho has a great knowledge of Dinosaurs of the Isle of Wight. If you’re looking for another great book to read (more expense ) I’d recommend this one http://www.nhbs.com/...fno_116286.html will certainly be taking my one. Adie_uk
ha ha yes saw that book but the guy in museum said this book (English Wealden fossils) basically is an updated version of that book, has all the same info and more (hope I am right in saying that now lol) CH4shotcaller, yes thought some photos of areas would be nice for a change rather than just fossil images.
