It is a little dark, I can't tell is it in matrix?

Only on the bottom; I have had a difficult time distinguishing the matrix as well.

Something about the margins, where the "object" joins the "matrix" makes me wonder whether it might not be an internal mould?

it doesn't look like a tooth. as Auspex said, it has the appearance, in a way, of a mold. the material does not look hard like tooth enamel or a chewing surface.
