Help Identifying Large Baltic Amber Insect

Aurelius

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

This one has me slightly perplexed, but then again I'm by no means an expert!

It's obviously some kind of fly. It's large, the current length being about 8mm, but I'd guess it could have been be up to twice that when whole.

I'm hoping these two images will be enough for someone to at least let me know what kind of insect this is?

Thanks in advance for your help! :)

Are you sure it's Baltic amber and not copal?

Pretty colorful inclusion, huh?
