I think the ball shapes to the right and left are associated with the belemnite but not really sure where they would have been positioned.

Yes, you're right. If you look at your phragmocone at the bottom middle of the photo you can compare your ball shapes with the individual parts of it and you'll see that that's where they belong. The phragmocone fits directly above the rostrum, or rather the thin end, when complete, inserts itself therein.
