terriW Posted April 26, 2013 Share Posted April 26, 2013 did a quick 20 second long check of my fatherinlaws dry creek bed now that the springtime flash floods have dried up and has this glaring up at me! cephalopod?... in NE iowa....ordovician..from where this washed, there isnt a whole lot of ancient ground upstream from where it came...but obviously enough! biggest fossil i've ever stumbled across !! Orthoconic just means "straight-shelled", it isn't a real ID, and I don't see any diagnostic characters on your specimen that would lead to a more precise ID. The land owner said "Hey you finally got one you don't have to throw back!".
