I think that these are both primarily limonite or hematite acting as a cement to hold a mass of pebbles and/or other materials together. In the first specimen the large pebble looks like quartz. If you check the streak of the brown material of the specimens (what appears to be limonite or hematite) by rubbing it against a piece of unglazed porcelain, it should give a yellow to brown color if it is limonite and a more reddish brown color if it is hematite. (note, the underside of a toilet tank cover is unglazed porcelain.)
