RomanK
I've found that specimen last morning. It looks like a big cone... Any idea? Roman http://s1143.photobu.../donbassfossil/
Fossildude19
Wow Roman, that is a monster cone! Looks like parts of several others over on the right side of the matrix? Great find! Regards, Thank you Tim! Cones at right bottom are well known Calamites ones, which are much more smaller. That is something else. LoneRanger
You're familiar with Sigillariostrobus, which has some variety in the way it looks. Some images I've seen on the internet are very similar to your piece. Is this a possibility?
araucaria1959
How wide is your specimen? What about Macrostachya? I don't know the length they can have, but I know from a recently purchased specimen that they reach a width of at least 14 mm. Here is a link to an old drawing: http://www.google.de/imgres?q=Macrostachya&start=88&hl=de&tbm=isch&tbnid=12_-xRur6Q3aDM:&imgrefurl=http://www.bgbm.org/BGBM/library/Gutbier/Macrostachya.html&docid=xnzu-koZhyfkuM&itg=1&imgurl=http://www.bgbm.org/BGBM/library/Gutbier/Macrostachya-Dateien/Tal3B%2525206.jpg&w=617&h=1877&ei=QHqiUf68Lenw4QTGgIHYDA&zoom=1&biw=1238&bih=835&iact=rc&page=3&tbnh=157&tbnw=51&ndsp=44&ved=1t:429,r:31,s:100,i:97&tx=27&ty=102 araucaria1959 Edited May 26, 2013 by araucaria1959

It looks more like a big Bowmanites (Sphenophyllum cone). Regards, Roman Roman http://s1143.photobu.../donbassfossil/
