It took about 20 minutes to extract the tooth as this layer is exactly what it says on the tin -a hardground. It also means that to prepare it I would need a more powerful tool such as an airpen which I don't have the money for yet. Unfortunately it does not look to have any root present (like the last big rootless one I found). I have sent various emails off and I was told it is most likely Cretoxyrhina sp (most common of the large chalk teeth) but it is anyone's guess really as so many of the teeth look the same and are identified by the roots.
