Chippewa
Just wanted to share, for anyone considering a Venice fossil dive. 8 hours round trip driving and a (short) night in the ol' motel 6. All for this tooth. Don't get me wrong - I'm very pleased. Just wish I could have spent another day and smelled the roses a bit. Actually, there was a nice little upper meg tooth also. And an unidentified mammal bone (see fossil ID forum thread dated today). Let me know if you need details for charter operators.

DeloiVarden
One nice meg is better than no megs. I'm glad you just didn't go home empty handed.

gwbh
Nice meg. I went to Venice 2 separate times and came back with no megs (12 hour round trip). My third time I found 8 megs, kinda made up for the first two trips. It's really hit or miss in Venice sometimes. I know of another person who didnt find anything the first two trips, and had success on his third. That being said I would recommend at least two days of diving to increase your chances. The first two trips I could only go one day, and I did not do too well, maybe coincidence. The 3rd trip to Venice I dove 3 days in a row and had much better results. Also I would go with Aristakat charters, Capt Jamie puts in the effort to keep up with good spots that haven't been hit too hard. His boat is a 6 pack (others are 12) so his spots are generally less picked over, not to mention he is cheaper than everyone else. happy hunting! Chippewa
Persistance is the key in this undertaking for sure. Thanks gwbh, I will give Aristakat a try next time.
