Mammal Vert Id

I think there's enough left of this vert to get an id. Found on the Brazos, of course. It's well mineralized.

Yeah CC, that's what I've been looking at. Just wondering if it could be anything else. I have the hardest time comparing verts.

Hey, Gary - take a few pictures from further away - this are a little out of focus from being too close.

Verts are a pain. I'll pull out some comparatives and take a look.

Here is my pretty worn fossilized deer vert.

Yours is way more complete than mine, but size wise and process placement looks the same.

When I first saw your vert my deer vert came into play as being a match..

CC, are you able to clean your fossil up at all? There seems to be a lot of matrix crusted on it. I'm thinking it might be obscuring some features - this might be a cervical vertebra.

Hi Rich, my vert is in as found condition. I'm pretty sure what you see is what you get with mine as the vert has fossilized

completely and appears very fragile. It seems to be the same composition through and through. It is rather heavy for it size at 1.3 oz.. Of course as can be seen the spinous process is worn down as well as the transverse processes. I agree that it is a cervical vertebra.
