Ridgehiker
Wow...quite the specimen. Incredible preservation. Pronghorns must have almost accordion like skeletons to absorb the impact. What is hard to imagine is not only the speed but that they are running across an uneven terrain with rocks, gopher holes, etc. It's a reminder that sometimes it's not possible to understand an ecosystem without a knowledge of the geology. In the other thread it was mentioned that pronghorns evolved to run fast because their main predator was the cheetah. Cheetahs are now extinct from N. America so at pronghorns seem an anomaly in their ecosystem today. Re the movies. Great info. An interesting book would be on geology and movie settings. The first time I went to Joshua Tree National Monument, it looked familiar. Later I was watching a Star Trek rerun and 'there it was'. Be interesting for posters to mention movies filmed in the natural settings around them.
