rylawz
Just looking for an ID on a Florida fossil. I think it may be proboscidea foot bone or maybe giant sloth or whale. but I honestly don't know. Any fairly sure guess would be appreciated. thanks Post your Proboscidea!!!!! RichW9090
Looks like a cetacean humerus. The plural of "anecdote" is not "evidence".
Boesse
This is indeed a cetacean humerus, and at that looks like it's from a large odontocete; likely a large ziphiid or physeterid.
RichW9090
Do you know where it was collected, and its age/formation? It looks like Bone Valley material. Gary Morgan published a nice review of the marine mammals from the Bone Valley region in 1994. Out of date somewhat now, of course, but might suggest what odontocetes are known. The plural of "anecdote" is not "evidence".

rylawz
Any more info on where in Florida it came from? no it is on ebay as unknown florida bone, its for under 10$. I just wanted to know if it was a mammoth or mastodon toe bone. that would have been a steal. still probably a good deal but whale fossils aren't down my alley Post your Proboscidea!!!!! RichW9090
Shame - if it was known to be from a Bone Valley site, it might be an important fossil - some cetacean humeri are identifiable to lower taxonomic levels. The plural of "anecdote" is not "evidence".
