megaholic
Found this screen washing on Saturday near the Peace River in Florida. I understand them to be the hind leg fighting spurs of the Pleistocene Epoch land tortoises. I have hundreds of them, but have never seen one that appears to be two fused as one. Can I get an ID and or confirmation that it is an unusual find? "A man who asks is a fool for five minutes. A man who never asks is a fool for life". RichW9090
Could be a fused pair of Hespertestudo osteoderms. I'll pass this on to the expert. Rich The plural of "anecdote" is not "evidence".
megaholic
Agreed Rich. The size is good for either. Still, an unusual find? Has anyone else found one of these? The pointed shape leads me away from osteoderms and closer matches a spur. MH Edited October 8, 2013 by megaholic "A man who asks is a fool for five minutes. A man who never asks is a fool for life". RichW9090
Meg, the spurs are just one type of osteoderm. Rich The plural of "anecdote" is not "evidence".
