squalicorax
Howdy all. I was fortunate to travel to Iowa City this weekend and collect in a Middle Devonian Quarry. This was a club trip and about 37 people attended. We were locked in at 9am and we left around 430pm. A couple fellow forum members were there in attendance like caleb and evern. Contained in the quarry was trilobites, brachiopods, corals, gastropods and some millerite specimens. I have included some photos from the quarry as well. Blastoid
Love the millerite! Be sure to keep that one in a box, you don't want it to get dusty. Very good find!
PennyT.
What a nice variety of trilos! Since I'm just a surface collector, could you describe your quarry trip for me? As in what tools and strength are needed to hunt in a quarry.
squalicorax
Its a little bit of both. You can surface collect for most of the fossils there although if you split layers open you have a better chance of finding trilobites. Rock hammers, small sledges and even a rock saw was utilized by people in the quarry.
