Bev
Old Dead Things, Jim and I went hunting yesterday in Bluff Country near Spring Valley. We got a late start but ended up with a tailgate full of fossils! It was a whirlwind 4 site hunt focussing on sites near Wykoff, Fountain and Fillmore. And for mid-October, we had a great day, temps in the 60s and blue skies. Jim got a crash course in Ordovician fossils. But he actually found what we both believe is a fossil bone! Yet to be IDed. And he is braver and more nimble than I am, climbing cliff faces! And he even found what we think is a curved ceph, but couldn't get it out. He has the eye for fossils! Here's Jim at the back of his pickup with a Hormatoma and a Ceph. Yummm, ice cream cone - Lick! A GREAT DAY and New Friends! Visit his site at www.olddeadthings.com Thanks Jim! The more I learn, I realize the less I know. Bev
Looks like y'all had a lot of fun! That site looks amazing..... That is THE premiere gastropod site in Minnesota! My retaining wall rock is out of there and heavily fossilized - what got me into fossils! Tracked down where the retaining wall rock came from and, I guess the rest is history, so they say... But its only good for cephs, gastropods (Maclurites in particular), and some recepts. No trilos or crinoids, not even brachiopods or bivalves that I have ever found. However, did get 3 pieces of Halysites coral one time - that's it. And they just get ground up into gravel... Quarry is holding water though, seems played out for the most part, and appears to be shutting down. Edited November 12, 2013 by Bev The more I learn, I realize the less I know.
