Ridgehiker
A few years back I was driving just north of the Colorado/Wyoming border and stopped to poke around some outcrops on a lonely stretch. Found quite a few mammal teeth....mostly individual small specimens. Also these sections with teeth in them. Any ID help appreciated even if just to order or family level. jpc
see if you can find any pix of Phenacodus online. Phenacodus is Paleocene, but it looks a lot like this.
siteseer
Jpc, Phenacodus, or at least the family Phenacodontidae, also extends into the Middle Eocene. I think you're right on the ID. I have a lower second molar that looks like the one in the jaw section. Mine is more worn. It was ID'ed by a friend who collects Eocene mammals - also an old friend of Dave Jones. Jess see if you can find any pix of Phenacodus online. Phenacodus is Paleocene, but it looks a lot like this.
