Katfish61
Right before we left, I explored the flatland at the site. Most of it is grass\weed, some of it has spots of dirt\soil. I hit several of these spots and came out with this large Neospirifer Brachiopod. Please correct me if I'm wrong on the ID,getting all my info on-line. Thanks to everyone for all of the great information I obtain on TFF. Kathy

erose
That is definitely a very nice Neospirifer. There are supposedly several very similar species that it could be but I have not quite figured them out. They are all so often busted up or squashed flat so that is a real keeper. Katfish61
Thanks,it was big surprise to me when it turned out to be what I thought it was. I thought, no way! It is to big, but I popped it out and as Bob put it "Wow"! The next time I go I am heading straight to that spot and search it first. We left right after I found it. We had been there a little over three hours and it was an hour and a half drive. It was so hard to pass up Bridgeport lake and not stop, another time, another trip. Can anyone tell me what the biggest is know to pull from that site? I had only seen ones that was the size of the tip of my finger, which isn't very big. It needs to be cleaned up and I believe it will reveal a really nice shell. I see a little translucent look to it, we will see. Thanks again..... erose
Be careful. it still may be fragile. Neospirifer gets large like yours. Finding one intact can be the challenge at many of the Texas sites. There are smaller Neospirifers as well as other "spirifid" genera. Some of the smaller ones are more likely to be preserved intact.
