jcbshark
This weekend I was joined by Chris (Plantguy) and another forum member all the way from South Africa,Jason (Nosaj) for a great creek hunt which was pretty productive.Saturday morning we all met up nice and early to make the most of the day.We did a little digging,a little snorkeling, and a little prospecting. The first spot didn't produce as well as hoped so we headed to a different spot and Chris quickly found an amazing horse hoof core which was definitely the find of the day.Congrats on that Chris. As it was foundcloser picanother viewA pic of Jason looking for treasureI found this small astragalus and not sure of it's rightful owner, maybe deer? Also an unknown if anybody has an idea I'd appreciate it.Another view of the unknown.Sunday Jason and I went out again and scouted another area and while the first hour was only fair we took a walk upstream and I found 4 horse teeth laying in a 2 foot radius in a deeper section of the creek.I knew this area needed further investigation and went to get my shovel but noticed a tree downed by the water this summer and what looked to be a Holmesina osteoderm. When I went to pick it up I realized it had company. Two more laid right by it.Jason and I made quick work of that area and pulled some Gator teeth and an osteoderm,a couple more Holmesinas and a bunch of other stuff. One of the teeth I found under the tree,I was thinking large deer or maybe small camel? Some gator teeth,an osteoderm and another claw like I found last week.I think the claw is gator as well..Here are the Holmesina osteoderms.I am going to continue this in another post.I think i'm out of photo space. Plantguy
Before going down to the creek I was in a drainage ditch looking for plants and critters. I managed to scare the heck out of myself and some other older gentleman out for a walk from the nearby neighborhood. Somehow he walked down the path unnoticed and I can laugh now but it was quite the adrenaline rush to realize that someone is behind you within 6 feet and not hear anything before hand! I digress.... Beauty berries, An "air plant" Tillandsia and possibly an Arrowhead Plant Some present day critter tracks.... Probably racoon and a couple of birds and an interesting chewed up plant that has enough leaves left in the same toe positions as the bird tracks...really odd coincidence. And lastly some finds....a couple of Tilly bones next to a small foot bone. Quite a trip!
