Chubs And Bones - Maryland Eocene/miocene Hunt Part 2

This post is from the same trip described by user shark57 on 11/17/13. Definitely one of my best days at this site.

My highlight of the trip was a 2 1/4" striatolamia macrota, by far the biggest I've found. About an inch of the blade (the bleached part) was sticking straight out of the cliff. I thought it was a good-sized narrow mako at first, and was surprised to find some cusplits as I cleaned it.

Also found three small chubs, all with minor damage (I usually only find one of these every other trip or so here),

A little ric with some nice color but missing the cusplits,

And a variety of bones: turtle, fish gill covers, and half a bird bone.

Great day!!! You and your dad had a really good trip. That's a really big S.macrota. Nice chubs and really nice bird bone. With the rarity of bird bones, any time you find one is a good day.

Thanks Marco! I saw that Mel has a macrota that's considerably longer than this one even. It's astounding to me how big some of the teeth of that species can get. I do always enjoy finding a bird bone with an intact end too.

Mel does have a really long S. macrota from that site. I don't remember the length but I remember that it was really big.
