Winter Solstice Trip

I found a few nice things on the day of the solstice, 12/ 21 2013.

Despite the weather, I went out to find a Pennsylvanian layer I have read about.

The snow was too deep to get to that layer , but I found a similar one right off the road and found some neat fossils.

The layer I found is about half way up in this 2nd photo.

The rocks above were rather precarious looking. Kinda made me nervous.(knock on wood).

The first thing I found was this neospirafer. I love this insitu photo. Millions of years and here it is!

Across the road was a similar layer coming up from under the ground.

Agreed, really nice in situ pictures. Especially the neospirafer you found first.

I love the in situ pics as well.Looking at what some of you guys and girls have to go through to collect really makes me appreciate how easy we have it here in Fl.Thanks for sharing and happy new year!

Every once in a great while it's not just a big rock down there!

Maybe your new site is as good as the one you heard about. No telling what's hiding under the snow. I hope you can get back there in the spring. Take a hardhat. I hate wearing them but sometimes it just makes sense :)

Looks like you've found 'the Spot'....

I love the in situ photos but I want to see all your finds after extraction too - can you take a group shot of them all laid out?

A little Solstice Wassailing of the Outcrop never hurt anything (it's only crazy if it doesn't work!). :)
