Micros From The Aquia Formation Maryland

Here are some of my finds from a batch of matrix I received from forum member Obsessed1. This matrix provided me my first opportunity to hunt the Aquia Formation. Please keep that in mind when viewing as I may have misidentfied some specimens.

If you place your cursor on a JPEG image you will see the file name which will have the specimen id as best that I can determine and the specimen size.

Thanks for looking! Please let me know if I need to change my ID's on any of these.

How would on go about finding these?

By laboriously picking through cups of washed and sifted matrix under high magnification.

Not for the impatient nor the weak of eyes... ;)

Congrats on some very nice finds. The Delpitoscyllium africanum is an especially nice find from there. There aren't a common find. I have only found 3 of those after going through 100's of pounds of gravel.

Thank you for providing the matrix that allowed me to find it. I was very pleased with the quality of the fossils that I was able to find.

You are welcome. I was hopeful that the waves from the day before had eroded to fresh material to provide some nice fossils for you.

Thanks for posting your finds, John, and for the ID's too. I've been enjoying picking through matrix looking for micros but I'm not doing very well with ID's. I'll try to post some anyway.

Mike

Start the day with a smile and get it over with.

Nice specimens and pictures! You have a nice representation of the micro species from the Aquia. Kevin took really good matrix based on the variety and the condition of the specimens. I agree fully with most of the ids. However, some sand shark ids and Galeorhinus versus Palaeogaleus are tough calls especially from pictures.
