MarkGelbart
Some people who lived in Moroccan caves 15,000 years ago had very high rates of dental caries. In fact, their teeth were among the worst archaeologists have ever seen...as bad as 19th century England. Apparently, they ate a lot of acorns, pine nuts, pistachios, wild oats, and wild legumes--starch that fed cavity causing bacteria in their mouths. http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/d-brief/2014/01/06/paleo-dieters-beware-cavemen-had-cavities-too/ They've got a photo of one fossil upper and lower jaw with teeth. Biggest cavity I ever saw. Edited January 9, 2014 by MarkGelbart
Scylla
I heard this story on the radio, but the pictures weren't as good! That cavity doesn't even fit on one tooth. Thanks for posting.
