Uncle Siphuncle
The Kid was squandering a bit too much of his existence on video games one weekend, so I informed him that he had just been conscripted for a fossil hike. He seemed to be at least lukewarm to the idea, a good start. In short, The Kid took the lead and spotted the one ammonite in the creek (I've since grid searched the area and turned up nothing in this class). An adult whorl was partially exposed...in consideration of the countless swirls in the Pecan Gap Chalk at this site, I applaud the lad for his discriminating eye. Weston's find will receive prime shelf space in the Ammonite Parlor... Edited January 23, 2014 by danwoehr Grüße, Daniel A. Wöhr aus Südtexas "To the motivated go the spoils." cowsharks
Great stuff. I love the thought of conscripting one's kid(s) for fossil hunts. Put that fossil center stage and shine it up real good.
caldigger
Congrates to Weston on a great find. Man, when I was a kid it was the other way around. My parents never knew where I was, because I was always out exploring.

jcbshark
Beautiful piece Weston,Congrats! It's great when we can get the kids involved in something outside the virtual world and into enjoying all the real world has to offer. Every once in a great while it's not just a big rock down there!

Uncle Siphuncle
The Kid has picked up some rarities over the years, some I've never even found myself. I'm all for it. As you can see, I've had him out there for a number of years...some days more reluctantly than others... Edited January 23, 2014 by danwoehr Grüße, Daniel A. Doctor Mud
Amazing !!! Some people say that to find great fossils requires a trained eye and years of experience.......sometimes curiosity seems to do the trick nicely. In saying that though you might also need guidance (like dad ) to realize that you have spotted an awesome ammonite that needs to be extracted. Fossildude19
Awesome ammonite,- Congratulations, Weston! Dan, Great photos of your son in the field. These are the memories he will hold on too, and remember with great fondness. Good for you, getting him involved and being a guiding influence in his life. Thanks for sharing with us. DE&i
Now this sentence should ring a bell for you . I hear it all the time it goes something like this. " right you two I want all those dirty clothes of before you put a foot in this house " That's some great scenes. Regards, D&E. Uncle Siphuncle
D&E On the contrary, just as we stepped out of the truck, I often said the magic words guaranteed to make a strapping boy's eyes light up, words that no maternal figure would ever utter..."Get as muddy as you want."
