Cahow Fossils Excavated In Southampton, Bermuda

In the article they wonder what would of caused a mass death of the Birds or anything else in this way. I have read articles in the past that mentioned groups of Birds killed in a small area caused by Lightning strikes. Over 500 million years I am sure that many local, unexplained deaths of animals could of been killed by Lightning.

A hundred Birds roosting in a tree, tree hit by Lightning, small area under tree with a hundred dead Birds. Same for a small cluster of Animals in an under ground nest and a ground strike of Lightning.

Just my un-educated thoughts.

No telling what caused the concentration, but a mass die-off is strongly implicated. It could have even been poisoning from a red tide event.

The Cahow (Bermuda Petrel) is today a rare and endangered species; I have seen only two, a couple years apart, in the Gulf Stream off Cape Hatteras, NC, in the spring.
