If I can post a spoiler in response to that leading headline, the answer is: he donated his collection to the Smithsonian, where they're already being used for scientific research. Good for you, Mr. Kohls! The article says an ancient cockroach was named in his honor, so I had to look that up. The species is Ectobius kohlsi, Vršanský et al 2014.
