The Passing Of Dr. Charles Finsley

I'm very sad to report the death this morning of Chuck Finsley. The author of A Field Guide to Fossils of Texas and Discover Texas Dinosaurs as well as other material and the long time head of the Dallas Museum of Natural History he was the main inspiration for the formation of the Dallas Paleontological Society. An awesome educator and speaker, he was able to fully engage an audience of one or of hundreds with his vast knowledge and experiences. A huge loss, he will be greatly missed.

Sad news indeed. He championed the amateur, and gave him the tools.

I looked for some biographical information about his career; it is surprising how faint a footprint he left on the internet.

Very sad news. My condolences go out to his family. I have had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Finsley a number of times. He was one of a kind. He seemed to be a rare blend of knowledge and humility. He also seemed to have an unbelievable sense of humor. This is another sad passing for the folks in the fossil family, particularly those in the north Texas community.

Haven't been on here for a little while. Wow, I was just talking about him last night. Very sad to hear about this. I was fortunate enough to meet him a few times. He loved to talk and had many great stories to tell. He will be missed.
