WilliamB
I recently found this while searching a dry creek bed and it instantly caught my eye. It was very different from anything else I've ever found in the surrounding area. It measures roughly 17 inches long, 8 inches, wide, and 5 inches thick. I have no idea if its anything other than an odd rock formation but any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
busyeagle
Looks to me like a piece of fossiliferous limestone or similar.
Auspex
The rock matrix itself is fossiliferous (you cam see some bits of shell in the 6th image). The feature that probably caught your eye, the surface with the striations, looks like slickensides (a geologic artifact from faulted rock faces sliding past each other). WilliamB
Thanks so much for the input. I think it'll look great around a small yard pond perhaps.
