New Members poppygold Posted September 9, 2014 New Members Share Posted September 9, 2014 (Firstly, I'm new so sorry if I'm doing anything wrong.) Hi there! So I bought a small fossil collection today from a charity shop, but it didn't have any form of identification. I know there are a lot of ammonites, but I have no clue what this is. Is it even a fossil? It's about 3.7cm. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

tmaier
It's the body and the tail of a trilobite, the head is missing. Still pretty neat. http://www.google.com/images?q=trilobite&btnG=Search&hl=en&gbv=1 There are some trilobite experts here who might be able to tell you more specifically what name of trilobite. It's hard to do that just from the body and tail.

Coelacanth
Your trilobite nodule appears to be from Bolivia. I have several similar specimens in my collection.

piranha
As mentioned above, the pygidium is from Bolivia. It's a prolific middle Devonian trilobite: Eldredgeia (=Metacryphaeus) venustus
