The Winner of the September 2014 Vertebrate Find Of The Month is the Deinosuchus rugosus crocodile tooth from the Upper Cretaceous (Campanian) Tarheel Formation in North Carolina, U.S.A.! Congratulations to MikeR on the discovery of his Giant croc tooth and his first win in the contest!

Congrats!! Fantastic find that makes they larger gator teeth I find look puny. Did it come from a water environment?

Thanks everyone. I was digging and as soon as my shovel came out it was sitting on top and I knew I had something special. I have David Schwimmer's book "King of the Crocodylians" on Deinosuchus but just now started reading it. Deinosuchus is actually an Alligatorid which I find even cooler.

It came from a deltaic marshy environment with smaller crocodiles, lots of turtle, tons of shark and occasional dinosaur remains all deposited as lag.

Congrats Mike. I believe that is the largest Croc tooth I have ever seen. Amazing.
