Found In Cretaceous Nj Brook

Hello Folks,

I found this in a Cretaceous NJ brook. The color of this thing caught my eye and it looks like it could be a fossil but it's unlike anything that I've ever found.

Thanks,

Steve

Looks like a highly eroded bivalve. The middle photo shows the hinge area.

The dimpled pattern on the outer edge is pretty odd.

Rugose coral is often found in this particular stream. Could this be from a different period than the Cretaceous?

yeah id say its definitely a glacial wash transplant. when surface hunting a lot there i would routinely bring a couple pieces home each trip. darwin ahoy even has a partial trilobite from there.

My son used to pick up early fossils among gravel in the driveway, a product of post glacial deposits all across the long coastal plain of NJ.

It's a keeper! The dimpled pattern makes me think it will one day find an identification. Put it away for a rainy day.
