kolleamm
I was searching near the cliffs for some nice pieces of shale when I came across this shell fragment. Is that a pearl I see? It appears to be fused with the piece. I'm no expert on this so if anyone could help me. Thanks in advance.
Wrangellian
Looks like a pearl to me, they sometimes come fused with the shell. Is this from a beach, and if so, is it a modern shell or do you find nacreous shell in the shale formation you were searching?
kolleamm
That's correct it is from the beach, to me it looks like a modern shell, but I could be wrong. Interesting...

painshill
Yes, it is a pearl and it's not uncommon for them to be attached to the shell... they're known as "blister pearls". It's definitely modern.
