zanti_ago
Hello everyone, sorry I wanted to see if they could help me try to identify this fossil leaf. It was a gift from a friend several years ago, the most probable is that it comes from mexico. Although it could also be false. Well I hope you can help me thank you very much
tmaier
It's not fake. It's a very nice fossil of a leaf. That's about as much as I can tell you. Looks like it is about 6 inches long? More people should have more info.
Wrangellian
Can't help you with the ID, but has it been coated in something shiny?
tmaier
has it been coated in something shiny? Looks to be lacquered. Would it be possible to see a close up shot of the side of the matrix? I'd like to verify that it is indeed sedimentary stone.
Tetradium
Look like it's once was much bigger kinda tropical leaf look to it. A lot of bottom part are missing and most of the edge
piranha
I'd say the matrix is sandstone and it looks like a possible match with something similar to this Corylus (Hazel) leaf: Brown, R.W. (1962) Paleocene flora of the Rocky Mountains and Great Plains. USGS Professional Survey Paper, 375:1-
zanti_ago
Thank you very much everyone for your responses. The fossil measures about 4 inches and is very porous stone and melts easily in the week I took a picture of the array. It is very similar to the photo that went up piranha. Again thank you very much to all.

zanti_ago
Excuse me, is that I use a translator and sometimes changed much the sense of the words. What I mean is that it is very porous.
tmaier
What I mean is that it is very porous. Better. It is a very bad sign when fossils melt.
