JohnJ
The Winner of the October 2014 Invertebrate / Plant Find Of The Month is the Plumalina plumaria “feather hydroid” from the Upper Devonian Chemung Group of New York, U.S.A.! It is a beautiful fossil from an "old time favorite" site. Congratulations to fossilcrazy (John) on his exquisite find and third win in the FOTM contests! Jeffrey P
Congrats John. Great find. The best dead thing did win. Yes, I did notice that three of the four top entries were from New York. Way to go Empire State. I first heard about these feather hydroids about forty years ago. A fellow I knew collected them in Watkins Glen, NY. He told me they were the only kind of fossil you could find there and they were restricted to a single bedding plane. Hadn't heard anything about them since until you entered yours. Best wishes and I hope you find many more.
