SoreBack
Hello, I found this on a gravel bar in a Monmouth County, NJ stream. It's a modern bone but I was hoping that someone could ID the animal that it came from. I'm guessing that it's a black bear claw but I'm not confident enough to bet on it! Thanks in Advance, Steve
obsessed1
Looks like a hoof core from a Whitetail Deer.

RichW9090
Odocoileus virginianus borealis, rear left lateral ungual phalanx, 4 year old male individual. OK, I made most of that up. But it is a deer ungual. The plural of "anecdote" is not "evidence".

SoreBack
That isn't anywhere near as interesting as a bear claw! Can we at least surmise that a bear killed this deer? Thanks Guys, Steve
