JustPlainPetrified
Ahhh... a bragging contest... Here's a picture of a petrified wood stump I found in Colorado, and it took THREE trips with my Tacoma to get it home. FFB.JPG Ahh...this was the only challenging picture I could find...nothing like your piece...
Stocksdale
You say it was from a Jersey gas station. There are a couple other gas stations built with petrified wood. Apparently it was a hot trend for the fossil fuel suppliers. Here's one in Colorado And one in Texas Edited November 20, 2014 by Stocksdale Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known.–Carl Sagan
Phillyrockhound
This piece of smokey quartz druse has me thinking brilliant, alabama. Others seem to point to Utah. This wall may have been a mixture of multiple sites! Still no word from the barnegat historical society. I'm obsessed over this puzzle! I agree that there may have been a fad for building with pet wood. But there always seems to be a local source for the ones I've seen. Nj and pa have pet wood, but I haven't seen any specimen from those states that are even remotely similar to these.
