Doctor Mud
Hi folks, Here's a piece I've been working on for a while. Got this a few years back and tried prepping the bones with my old electric engraver. The rock wouldn't flake off. I then proceeded to acid prep. Weak, buffered acetic acid. I got this far and stopped as I couldn't see anything that looked diagnostic, and the acid cycles are very time consuming. Soak for a weak, gently brush off dissolved matrix, neautralize acid, protect exposed bone with consolidant. Does anything look familiar to anyone? I almost thought that the one view is reminiscent of the rostrum of a small baleen whale...... I was thinking of trying again now I have air-scribes, but don't want to invest ages on a jumble of non-diagnostic post-cranial elements. The block is 30 cm long. Images around the top view are orientated to show the view from the respective angles. Close up of the long flat bone. This continues back into the block. Thought this might be rostral material? Thanks for looking.
