cowgirlfossils Posted March 27, 2015 Share Posted March 27, 2015 Almost out of fossil area. They are digging below the fossil layer now. Found a couple pieces on the wall of the pit. Boesse Posted March 28, 2015 Share Posted March 28, 2015 Not a bison - that's a pretty good match for the atlas vertebra of the Pliocene walrus Valenictus chulavistensis. Nice find! Walrus fossils aren't exactly common. I don't immediately recognize the smaller atlas, but that very well could be an ungulate. 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
