Hi everyone,

Amongst other fossils that I found from my last field trip, I found what I believe to be a Mesozoic shark dermal dentical (known as a 'type 3 or 4' I think) measuring 1.5mm.

All opinions welcome.

It is definitely a dermal denticle, and it looks very similar to several I have from Lee Creek (which is Miocene/Pliocene!!!!). Some say the ones I have are from a Bramble Shark, others say they are from rays.

Very nice find, especially to find it on the ground in the quarry. As Auspex said, well done!!

Darren, Very nice. Good find!!!

I was fortunate to find one of those that Pete references.. and now I wonder if it is from a shark or ray. Recognizing the close relationship, I would still like to learn the source of these neat little fossils. I always made the assumption that these came from rays.
