The Winner of the May 2015 Invertebrate / Plant Find Of The Month is the Rhaphidiophorus hystrix polychaete worm from the Pennsylvanian period Francis Creek Shale of Illinois, USA! This in an incredibly preserved Mazon Creek deposit specimen! Congratulations to RCFossils (Rob) on his fourth contest win with a very rare find. :thumbsu:

Well done Rob!

How many freeze thaw cycles did it take to reveal this beauty.

Must have been an exciting day when it popped!

Congratulations Rob. Amazing Mazon animal with all the bristles in such sharp detail. Nice specimen and nice win.

Congrats Rob!

There were so many other drool-worthy entries in this contest that I'd love to have found that it really shows how special this piece is to have come out on top. That piece is truly incredible. It is so much better looking than any other specimens of that species I've seen (or likely anybody has seen). Has Jack Wittry (fiddlehead) seen this piece yet? I bet he'd like a good quality high resolution photo of this one for his files.

Cheers.

Wow!

Thanks to everyone for the kind words.

Out of the thousand of Mazon Creek fossils that I have collected over the years. This worm ranks up there as one of my most memorable finds.

I am having a friend do a little prep on the piece and will post additional pictures once it is finished

Congratulations Rob. That is one amazing fossil.

There were several entries this month that deserve recognition. In a "normal" month that crinoid would have been a shoe-in. I'm always amazed at the quality of the specimens people are finding.
