July 2015 Finds Of The Month

Hello! Here is my addition to the Fossil Of The Month.

It is a turtle skull. But... Maybe someone thought it was a big shell and cracked it open to see what was inside. Or maybe they didn't know what it was, or maybe it was an accident. We didn't do it, but boy was it a shame. Still pretty cool!

Here is some Information:

Collected: 4 of July 2015

Species: Notochelone

Formation: Toolebuc Formation

Found: Site 1, Richmond, Queensland, Australia (Very Specific)

This will be my first entry for FOTM and I submit this trilobite for IPFOTM.

Name: Eldredeops rana (Phacops rana)

Size: 2.0 inches

Age: Middle Devonian

Formation: Lower Wisdom Shale, Moscow Formation

Location: Erie County, NY

Date found: June 10, 2015

Dates prepped: July 28, 29, 2015

Preparation by: Raggedy Man

Nice mottled coloration on the trilobites RM. I like when they are different than the jet black ones we find around Hamburg New York. Gives them a bit of character.

That is the exact reason I didn't not use any abrasion and there is shale still on him. It is also the reason I didn't not prep the eyes. I want to, but I'm sure the process will also remove it's unique color. I'm still learning as well.
