frankh8147
I recently found this Enchodus 'fang' in New Jersey and attempted to clean the bottom of it. For some reason, I am really struggling with removing that dirt (I even tried gently rubbing it with a tooth brush and soap). Anyone have any ideas? Thanks! -Frank Edited July 8, 2015 by frankh8147
Ptychodus04
I'm not seeing anything worth removing in the pic. frankh8147
That could be - I was fairly certain that there was dirt caked on the base of the tooth but the black may just be worn off.
squali
Depending on the formation it came from the tooth base can stain. It looks good. I don't think you need to do anything to it. Is it broken? the base cross section looks strange at the photo angle. It's hard to remember why you drained the swamp when your surrounded by alligators. frankh8147
Thank you squali; it's not broken but the base cross section is indeed strange - the tooth will not sit flat on hard surface. Luckily though, my collection is padded at the bottom so it looks good there. I know it's only an Enchodus but I really don't find many with that kind of gloss on it so that's why I wanted to make it presentable as possible. Oh, and the formation is Wenonah.
