JerseyGirl
Item one (my guesses have been awful so I'm just not going to try...). Ignore what look like striations in the last shot; they're shadows from the gizmo I use to take these pix.
JerseyGirl
Item two: tooth? A new one for me.
Ramo
The first one looks like a pycnodont tooth, and the other looks an awful lot like a plesiosaur, but based on it's size it could be some sort of fish. Ramo 1 For one species to mourn the death of another is a new thing under the sun. -Aldo Leopold
Al Dente
The first one is a pycnodont tooth, the second is a piece of a Scapanorhynchus tooth.
JerseyGirl
Thanks so much for the quick IDs. I'm trying to read about all the shark teeth I'm finding, so I can categorize them and learn more about the animals they came from so it's great to know the name scapanorhynchus. The pycnodont tooth is amazingly perfect and glossy-- like a plump new seed. Now I've seen pictures of the teeth in plates-- what a chewing system, like bunch of pestles, I suppose. Darwin Ahoy
Yes, agree with Al Dente. The pycnodont is Anomaeodus phaseolus.
