This month I have a xipheroceras from lyme Regis, UK. 190myo.

It's from a septarian or a stellare nodule. Found on the 10th, prepped on the 17-18th

It was the stickiest ammonite I've ever prepped. A bit of a nightmare 😆

It seems to me we ought to have a "Preparation Job of the Month". Some of these fossils, quite apart from the find themselves, have had very skillful prep done on them!

I share the sentiment behind this; there is some awesome skill displayed on our Forum!

The drawback to a Prep-of-the-Month competition is that, while any member has a chance at finding THE fossil, our pool of highly skilled preparators is much smaller. ;)

Found Friday, November 27th

Partial dentary of Pelagornis sp. - giant pseudotoothed bird

Possibly late Oligocene

Chandler Bridge Formation

Ladson SC

Given its relative rarity, I figured I throw my hat in the ring with this specimen. From the largest flying bird known to have exist. Donated to the Mace Brown Museum of Natural History today (11/30/15).

I would like to submit my Florida Parotodus benedeni tooth for consideration for VFOTM :) Based on where it was found it's likely late Miocene. I found it Nov 28 and while it's far from perfect they are very rare in south Florida :D
