New Members Tree Falcon Posted November 10, 2015 New Members Share Posted November 10, 2015 My son and I are new to fossil hunting and can't figure this one out. Found in a Jurassic riverbed layer near Fruita CO near a site where many Jurassic dinosaurs have been found. Of course we're hoping its dino but it seems more like a cast than a fossilized bone or petrified wood. We did find some petrified wood in the same layer but it was very different than this one. Seems like mudstone that filled in an impression left by a branch or part of an animal. Any help, appreciated!

Ludwigia
Stones can often be very deceptive, particularly when they're as well-weathered as this one. 1 Greetings from the Lake of Constance. Roger http://www.steinkern.de/

Auspex
I think it is probably a sedimentary structure; dessication cracks in mudstone, maybe. 1 "There has been an alarming increase in the number of things I know nothing about." - Ashleigh Ellwood Brilliant “Try to learn something about everything and everything about something.” - Thomas Henry Huxley >Paleontology is an evolving science. >May your wonders never cease!
