njfossilhunter
I have been working in the Wenonah Hardpan for a while now and on my last trip I pulled up some more of it and found a bunch of clams around what I think is the opening of a shrimp borrows but one little thing stuck out and under my Dino-lite scope I found what I think is a fish scale ...so I need someone that can help me ID this thing. All help would be greatly appreciated . Tony Click on picture to enlarge. Edited November 10, 2015 by njfossilhunter TonyThe Brooks Are Like A Box Of Chocolates,,,, You Never Know What You'll Find. Fossildude19
Hey Tony that is a cool looking fish scale. Looks like it might be a Ctenoid scale? Could also possibly be a Cycloid scale , I guess. What is the age of the Wenonah Hardpan? Unfortunately, I have no idea what it could be from. Cool find, though. Regards, Thanks Tim Its the first one I have found in the Cretaceous deposits The wenonah is early Campanian in age ...Well it does look like a Ctenoid form because it appears to have fingers on one end and not round like Cycloid.... From what I have found on the net is that it could be from a boney fish,,,maybe Enchodus..Not sure...Hoping to narrow it down. PS.....I'm kinda hoping its a Lungfish scale since it was found near where I found the lungfish tooth plate....Yea..Wishful thinking.
