sharko69
Found this yesterday at Post Oak Creek. It looks like a small jaw section but no teeth. I have never found mosasaur there but know it is possible. Seems small for mosasaur. I have teeth from Pachyrhizodus from the same area and wonder if that is what I have here. There is a post that is similar right now where I recognize the teeth but is there a way to tell what this is from just the piece of bone? As always, thank you for any insight anyone can provide. Ptychodus04
It's definitely a jaw fragment and, it looks like Pachyrhizodus to me. Carl
I'm thinking mosasaur. The bone looks more reptilian than fish to me.
Xiphactinus
I agree with Carl....the bone texture isn't right for fish.
sharko69
Wow! That would be exciting if it is mosasaur. It would be my first.
Ptychodus04
I'll concede. I'm still in the Pachy camp (my wife says I'm stubborn...) but I can see the point about the bone structure. sharko69
My next question then is what is the difference in bone structure of fish vs. reptile?
