Brookiesaurus94
Hi guys, I was digging around in the Gingin Chalk a week ago, and I found this, as well as some echinoid spines, bivalves and crinoid fragments. What could this be? I thought maybe a jawbone, but I really don't know. An help would be amazing!! Thanks
ElToro
Hi! I'm from Perth and also dig the Gingin Chalk and Molecap Greensand! Looks like it could be bone. A couple guys on here would have a better ID. "That belongs in a museum!" - Indiana Jones
Fossildude19
Hello, Your pictures are a tad blurry, and a bit difficult to make out. I don't think it is a jawbone - I see no bone texture in the current pictures, and no holes for teeth. Maybe a piece of broken, worn shell, if anything. Perhaps better, in focus pictures will help to decide. Wait for a few more opinions before placing an ID, though. ElToro
Very hard to tell from the pics. What camera are u using? Bones from Gingin have a certain texture, where the small channels that carry blood are visible. So if there are small pits and lines when looking up close, its most likely a bone. I can't see the texture in your piece because it too blurry. If you are using a self focusing phone camera or some such, its often hard to focus up close. You need to take a few photos until you get it in focus. With me I need to move my camera off and on target to get it to refocus. Eventually I get a good shot.
