Hi Chris!

Interesting find.

Can we see an overview of the plate?

Not sure about it being an undichna trace fossil.

I would lean more towards something else - maybe a coprolite or operculum imprint?

Just some guesses, but an overview might help determine what you have there.

Do you happen to have both sides os the plate, as well?

Cheers,

Hi Tim

yes two possibilities I hadnt considered probably more likely than undichna (as I havnt found any other trace fossils in my area)

Ill take some photos from above when i can get some better light very hard to photo

unfortunately the negative side broke during transport :(

thanks Tim

best regards Chris

Could it be a thin layer of matrix still covering a fossil? Is there a corresponding bulge or indentation on the underside? Cool little jaw!

Hi Sam sorry for late reply

No corresponding bulge on underside , unfortunaltely the specimen has broken

Oh well I think that it could have been an indentation left in the mud that could have been caused by a number of things

thanks for looking

best regards Chris

Your guess is as good as mine. It could very well be a trace, but as to what might have made it, that is and shall remain open to conjecture in my opinion.

Sorry for late reply

I tend to agree , could be any number of things but anyway the specimen has broken

thanks for looking though :)

best regards

Chris
